Pretoria - South Africa's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figure at market prices for the fourth quarter of 2008 has contracted by 1.8 percent quarter-on-quarter (q/q) from 0.2 percent growth in the third quarter, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) announced on Tuesday.

Ethiopian exports to the US doubles

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Ethiopian exports to the United States under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in 2008 more than doubled over the 2007 figures, said the US government said on Tuesday.

From January to December 2008, Ethiopia’s AGOA exports reached $18 million, surpassing the $8.9 million earned in AGOA exports during 2007, the government said.
