Pretoria - South Africa will join other African countries, who will meet on Thursday, to pledge funds to tackle famine in the Horn of Africa.
The pledging conference, to be held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, will collect funds that will help over 12 million people in the region.

Pretoria - Government and non-governmental aid organisations are calling on South Africans to help by donating whatever they can spare for Somalis in desperate need.
Briefing the media on Friday, International Relations Deputy Minister Marius Fransman said they will do everything to help elevate the situation in that country. He said South Africa will be providing financial and non-financial support, which will be in the range of R1 million and more.

WASHINGTON - The Board of executive Directors of the World Bank approved last week a US$101.3 million credit to contribute to enhance the efficiency and quality of the Senegal higher education system and the oversight and accountability of the higher education institutions (HEIs). According to Atou Seck, World Bank Task Team Leader, the tertiary education governance and financing for results project "will support investment and policy reforms that will improve the Government's capacity to improve the effectiveness of the tertiary education system."

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Omidyar Network announced today it has committed $1.5 million over two years to African Leadership Academy (ALA), an institution dedicated to cultivating a new generation of African entrepreneurs. ALA will use the funding to strengthen its ability to identify promising young students, build its entrepreneur development program, and provide life-long support for a network of more than 6,000 leaders across Africa.
"Omidyar Network believes that entrepreneurship is a driving force for creating positive social impact," said Arjuna Costa, Director of Investments at Omidyar Network. "By supporting Africans with great ambition, talent and leadership potential, ALA is enabling future entrepreneurs to pursue their ideas and ultimately accelerate social chance from within the continent."

Atlanta, GA - Spelman student leaders say sex trafficking has been taking place in their own backyard for far too long, and they are inviting the entire community to join them tonight, Tuesday, April 26, at 6 p.m., in the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, for an evening of awareness via poetry, art, song and presentations from speakers who battle sex trafficking.
