Accra, Ghana - Election observers who trooped to Ghana to monitor the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections have expressed satisfaction with the Ghanaian electoral process. The ECOWAS monitoring team leader, General Yakubu Gowon, has described Sunday’s election as the finest he has ever witnessed on the continent. He however gave credit to the people of Ghana and the Electoral Commission (EC) for making the process transparent and peaceful. Some foreign journalists and coalition of civil society observers have all expressed satisfaction with the way Ghanaians went out in their numbers to vote. Although the there were few incidents where unsatisfied voters attempted to bolt away with ballot papers, they have been arrested and are currently in police custody. Source: APA |
